Volkswagen plant likely our best chance for more jobs

With Sen. Barack Obama poised to represent the Democratic party as its candidate for president, it shows this country has taken great strides in stamping out discrimination. I’m glad to see it. America has taken far too long to get to this point.
But apparently not all of the country enjoys racial equality. I say this after reading about a rather interesting new booth at the Farmers Market in Corvallis, Ore.
The name of the booth is called ‘Meet A Black Guy’ and it’s being operated by lifelong Oregon resident Jeff Oliver, who is African-American.
Among booth highlights that Oliver touts are that you can have your picture taken with a black guy and you can talk with a black guy. While most of us here in McMinnville take such things for granted, Oliver says, ‘Corvallis is not a very diverse place.’
Oliver says his main goal is to promote racial understanding and break stereotypes. I admire him for this mission and wish him well as he fights to simply be treated equal.
As for other odd, strange and curious news, here’s a dumb criminal story that has to rank near the top. It involves a California man who was wanted by police in connection with a string of stolen security equipment.
Fearing that police were likely looking for his white Mitsubishi pickup that he reportedly used to steal the equipment, the man, Howard Shanholtzer, decided to steal another vehicle so as not to alert attention.
It is unknown why Shanholtzer decided to steal another white Mitsubishi pickup.
