Community celebrates a Lucky day-Luckyfest offers variety of activities

When communities get together, pageants are a given. Winners in the various LuckyFest events. See end of article for names and categories.
A good time was had by all at the annual Luckyfest held June 7 at Lucky Community Center, with Mother Nature cooperating for the numerous outdoor activities. Committee members planned activities for all ages, ranging from an open car show to a full slate of entertainment.
Assorted vendors set up their displays around Lucky Park, as well as the community club grounds. TWRA manned an interesting wildlife exhibit, and representatives from the National Guard visited with guests and distributed literature.
No matter where the General Lee goes, there is a crowd of admirers, and this exhibit was no different. The car is a 1969 Dodge Charger that originally belonged to Waylon Jennings, the narrator on ‘The Dukes of Hazzard.’
An old-time hay ride was available throughout the day, much to the delight to both the young and old. Complimentary chocolate ice cream bars were distributed to the children, and graciously donated by Dairy Queen.
Attendees did not go hungry, as a delicious variety of food items were available, ranging from white beans and cornbread, to fried pies. Of course hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, hot fudge sundaes and homemade desserts were also popular items.
The Luckyfest pageants are a popular crowd-pleaser, with babies presented in categories through four years old. Blue ribbon winners include: Bishamon Bowhall, Aspen Adams, Lillian Tanner, Emma Pedigo, Briley Pedigo, Isabelle Allen, Maddox Adams and Jaden Herman. Rebecca Lance was awarded the title of Little Miss Lucky for girls between five and eight years old. Miss Lucky Inbetween was a new pageant this year, with Cailyn Hillis claiming the title. It was designed for young ladies 9-12 years of age.
Entertainment was a highlight of the festivities, with Al Mayhan providing interesting fun for the younger set. Local songster Diane Pelham presented a delightful program, as well as the gospel group, Heartsong. Toes were tapping as the band Runaway Freight played an assortment of bluegrass and country tunes.
