13 the lucky number for Lady Bronco softball-Wanamaker K’s 13 as Boyd picks up 13th win
On Friday the Lady Bronco softball team added one more victory to the win column by downing Cannon County 2-1 in non-district action. With the win Boyd improved to 13-2 on the season. Cassie Wanamaker picked up the win for Boyd fanning 13, while giving up five hits.
Cannon County had the first opportunity to send a runner across the plate in the top of the second on a one out hit, but the next two batters were retired.
Both teams went down in order in the third. In the bottom of the fourth with one out Kelcy Tate singled, followed by Megan Boren who drew a walk. Leah Walker walked to load the bases. Danna Wells reached on an error, which scored Tate. Sara Buckner reached on a fielders choice, which scored Walker before Cannon County got out of trouble.
In the top of the fifth a leadoff single and a walk put runners in scoring position for Cannon County. But the Lady Broncos got out of the inning without any damage being done.
Cannon County scored its only run of the game in the top of the sixth on a lead-off triple, and a one out single. Two ground balls got Boyd out of trouble as Cannon County made it a 2-1 game.
Walker doubled to start the bottom of the sixth, but the next three batters went down in order.
Wanamaker fanned the first two batters in the top of the seventh. But the next two batters reached, giving Cannon County a chance to take the lead. But the next batter went downing swinging giving the Lady Broncos the narrow win.
Boyd was scheduled to play Community on Monday, but the game had to be postpone until today at 3 p.m. at Boyd Christian.
The District 9-A tournament will start on Thursday at Forrest. The Lady Broncos’ opponent will not be determined until after today’s matchup.
