Netters sweep Sparta
Thursday afternoon at Sparta the WCHS tennis teams picked up a sweep in District 7-AAA action over White County. The Pioneers defeated the Warriors 8-1, while the Lady Pioneers shut out the Lady Warriors 7-0. The boys team improved to 3-1 in district play, while the girls are now 2-4.
Playing in the No. 1 spot for the Lady Pioneers, Holly Ray defeated Kim Madge 8-2. Anne Claire Roberts defeated Star Simpson 8-4 in the No. 2 spot. Ashley Reuter won her No. 3 seed, 8-3 over Lauren Cannon. Jamie Bush rolled past Megan James 8-2 and Sarah Weber made it a clean sweep as she defeated Jessica Jones 8-0.
In doubles, Ray and Roberts defeated Madge and Cannon 8-4. Reuter and Bush defeated Jones and James 8-4.
For the Pioneers Salem McGregor picked up the Pioneers only loss on the day when he dropped a 8-9 set to Justin Turney. No. 2 seed Beck Spurlock defeated Tyler Brady 8-3. Matthew Black defeated John Honaker 8-3 in the No. 3 spot. Dakota McGregor rolled past Tyles Rash 8-0 and Robby Brown playing in the No. 5 spot defeated Conlon Cash 8-3.
In doubles action, Salem McGregor and Black defeated Turney and Brady 9-7. Spurlock and Dakota McGregor rolled past Honaker and Cash 8-0. Andrew Reuter and Dustin Morris defeated Rash and Randolph 8-4. Michell Page and Randy Atwood defeated Turney and Cole 9-8.
