Garing Protective Services ready to provide security
Around these parts, Scott Garing is known for his Main Street business New York Grill. But he also has an extensive background in the security business and he is bringing his expertise to McMinnville.
Garing Protective Services is opening in the building next to New York Grill and the business is expected to be up and running at that spot in about two weeks. Scott owns both buildings.
He says his business will offer anything from providing bodyguard work to patrolling shopping centers. His employees will be state licensed and they will undergo TBI background checks.
‘There are different levels of protection,’ said Scott. ‘If you’re a bodyguard for Madonna, it’s not the same as if you’re providing security for a movie theater. I don’t see there being so much of a need for high-end security here in McMinnville, but we’re going to be available in bigger cities like Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga. We’re going to concentrate on that triangle area.’
Scott already maintains a force of about 15 security guards to keep law and order at New York Grill, which transforms to Club Manhattan after 10 p.m. Scott says his security philosophy is simple. He wants to prevent a problem before it has a chance to manifest.
‘Some people see insurance as an added expense,’ said Scott. ‘They don’t want to pay it until there’s an accident and then they want it. Security is the same way. A lot of people want it after their bank is robbed or their car is broken into. Me, I’d rather have the security up front so you don’t have to backpedal and try to fix your image. You try to deter anything from happening in the first place.’
Scott says he can provide the type of security needs people request. That can be patrolling a neighborhood regularly in a vehicle, or providing more immediate protection like accompanying someone who is bothered by a stalker.
‘It could be you want someone there to watch your back,’ said Scott. ‘Or it could be providing executive protection like for a big-name band.’
Scott said ex-military and ex-police officers are natural people to hire. He indicated he provides some training as well.
‘It’s going to be upscale security and it should be pretty interesting,’ said Scott. ‘I’m going to make the building look good and it won’t be another empty building downtown.’
