Parents want monitors on buses after alleged rape

MURFREESBORO (AP) ‘ Some Rutherford County parents are asking the school district to put adult monitors on all buses after a bus video tape showed a freshman girl being sexually assaulted by an 18-year-old student.

District officials and school board members said they have been flooded with calls, e-mails and stops on the street from parents. But officials say adding monitors would cost more than $3 million annually.

Riverdale High School senior Brandon Stover was arrested on rape and sexual battery charges after the 14-year-old girl accused him of groping her and putting his hand down her pants last Wednesday.

Bus driver Joe Bond has been cleared of any wrongdoing. Police say he took the proper action after learning of the incident.

School officials said they will discuss the issue at the next school board meeting scheduled next Thursday.
