Lebanon girls routed in region tourney finals; Sparta, Siegel boys win
The District 7-AAA girls tournament champions are still alive in their quest for a state tourney berth, but won’t be hanging any region championship banners this year.
Lebanon’s Blue Devilettes were soundly defeated in Wednesday night’s Region 4-AAA tournament finals, losing to Shelbyville by a 63-22 margin.
Hannah Dawson and Alex Jarrell led the way for the Golden Eaglettes with 17 points each, as the multi-time state champs opened up a 22-3 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
London Elie was the only Lebanon player to reach double figures, scoring 10 points.
Despite the loss, the (20-13) Blue Devilettes still have a chance at making the state’s final eight teams. To do so, however, they will have to defeat (30-2) Cleveland, the winner of the Region 3 tournament. That game will be played at Cleveland on Saturday night, while Shelbyville (26-5) will play host to Region 3 runner-up Bradley Central.
On the boys’ side of the ledger, White County earned the right to face Siegel in last night’s region tourney finals, setting up a rematch of the District 7 championship by topping Oakland 57-44 Tuesday night.
Siegel reached the championship with a 61-49 win over Shelbyville, meaning both the Stars and the Warriors will play in the sectional round on Monday, March 3, against the finalists from Region 3.
