Grissom leads Spencer girls over Boyd
Tuesday night at Van Buren County High School the Lady Broncos of Boyd Christian matched up with the Lady Eagles in District 9-A action.
Jaleta Grissom netted 24 points for the home squad, helping the Lady Eagles down the Lady Broncos 81-44.
With the win Van Buren improved to 7-4 in district action, which put them in third place, behind Middle Tennessee Christian with a 7-2 record and Forrest, which stands at the top of the district with a 9-0 record. The Lady Broncos are 0-10 in district play.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 25-6 lead after one period of play. In the second period the Lady Broncos got their offense going, hitting for 15 points, but the Lady Eagles connected for 18 points. By the end of the first half Van Buren had built a 21-43 lead.
Second-half action saw the Lady Eagles continue to stay hot from the floor. Van Buren out scored Boyd 19-13 in the third period, which gave the Lady Eagles a 62-33 lead heading into the final period.
Van Buren had another big quarter on offense in the fourth, while the Lady Broncos struggled to put 10 points on the board. Van Buren out scored Boyd 19-10 in the final period to run away with the victory.
For the Lady Broncos, Virginia Prater netted 15 points and eight rebounds. Danna Wells had 11, Emily Newby pitched in nine points and collected 10 rebounds. Cassie Wanamaker had six, Olivia Newby netted two and Kelcy Tate added one point.
For the Lady Eagles, Grissom led all scorers with 24, Cierston Simmons had 18, Rachel Delon added 12, Porsche McDonald 14, Shelby Bouldin added eight, Catlin Whittenburg pitched in four and Bee Martin had one point.
The Lady Broncos are scheduled to be at home tonight to take on Forrest.
