WCMS cagers sweep home finales-Pioneer boys wrap perfect CTC season

Mitchell McCorkle goes up for two of his 10 points during Monday’s win over Tullahoma East.
Perfection continued for the WCMS boys varsity basketball team Monday night in Central Tennessee Conference play.

The Pioneers wrapped up the regular season title after downing Tullahoma East 54-38 in the WCMS gym. With the win the Pioneer squad improved to 13-0 in conference play.

It was obvious from the opening tip that Warren County’s aggressive defense and quickness on offense was going to give Tullahoma problems. Tullahoma managed just five points in the opening period. Hunter Daniel got Warren County off and running in the first period as he netted five points. Mitchell McCorkle also added five points including a 3-pointer and Justin Ware added a basket as Warren County held a 12-5 lead.

The Pioneers extended their lead in the second period as McCorkle and Micah McColloch netted one basket each and Thomas Locke nailed a 3-pointer during the first two minutes of play. The Wildcats once again had problems running their offense. Tullahoma put four points on the board before the half ended. Warren County got baskets from Daulton Foster, Jacob Reagan, Hunter Adams and Locke to close out the period. Warren County headed into the break with a 27-9 lead.

Tullahoma finally got its offense going in the third period with the help of Andrew Rigney and Ryan Rippy who helped their team to a 14 point period. But the Pioneers offense continued to dominate the ball game. McCorkle hit for five points, Adams added a pair of baskets, Casey Locke found the bottom of the net and Thomas Locke added a 3-pointer as Warren County ended the third period with a 44-23 lead.

Tullahoma opened up the fourth quarter with five unanswered points. After a Casey Locke basket, Rippy hit back-to-back buckets for the Wildcats. Warren County went to the free throw line during the final minute of play hitting four-of-five. Thomas Locke converted a 3-point play to end the game and securing the Pioneer victory.

McCorkle hit for 12 points for Warren County. Thomas Locke had 10, Adams had six, Casey Locke, McColloch and Daniel added five points apiece. Ware had four, Reagan, Mac Britton and Foster added two points each.

Rigney had 10, Rippy added seven and Alex Rice had five to lead the Wildcats.

On Saturday the Pioneers defeated Franklin County South 45-26. Warren County out scored the Trojans 10-9 in the first period and by the break the Pioneers held a 23-11 lead. In the third period Warren County out-scored Franklin County 9-8 for a 32-19 lead.
