Hall sets pace for Lady Bulldogs-Scores 17 in win over Irving College

Eastside traveled to Irving College Thursday night at the Lady Tigers and Lady Bulldogs battled it out in seventh- and eighth-grade action. Peyton Hall led the Lady Bulldogs to a 37-29 win as she netted 17 points.

First-period action saw the two teams combine for 17 turnovers. Irving College turned the ball over nine times, while Eastside had eight. Hall scored the first two baskets for the Lady Bulldogs during the first minute of play. Lacey Bess put her Lady Tigers on the board at the 2:52 mark. Cheyenne Cobb went to the line and hit one-of-two. Lolita Terrazas added a lay-up and Heavenly Cook closed out the Lady Tigers scoring with a bucket in the paint. Shalas Bruce and Emily Womack added one basket each for Eastside as the Lady Bulldogs held a 8-7 lead by the end of the period.

Hall got Eastside off to a good start once again in the second period. But Becca Smith answered for the Lady Tigers. Eastside then ran off six straight points as Mariella Villafuerte hit a pair of buckets and Hall connected on a lay-up. Down by seven, Smith pulled the Lady Tigers within four at the break as Eastside led 16-12.

In the third period Eastside extended its lead to 21-13 after Hall pitched in five unanswered points. But with 3:32 left in the period, Irving College made a run with six straight points, including a 3-pointer by Terrazas. But the Lady Bulldogs closed out the quarter with baskets from Womack and Hall to take a 25-19 lead.

Eastside broke the game open during the first two minutes of the fourth period. Hall connected, Womack added a pair of baskets, Holly Graham and Ashley Redmon had one basket each. With 1:32 left in the game Irving College came up with eight straight points including a pair of buckets from Bess. But it wasn’t enough as Womack sealed the deal for Eastside with an easy bucket in the paint to end the game.

For Eastside, Hall had 17, Womack added 10, Villafuerte had four, Redmon and Graham added one basket each.

Smith netted 11 points for the Lady Tigers. Terrazas had seven, Bess hit for six, Cook had two, Cheyenne Cobb, Sara Wilmoth had one point each.
