Dibrell’s girls maul Morrison in season finale

Dibrell’s Lady Wildcats celebrated eighth-grade night in style, and wrapped up the top seed for this week’s county championship tournament in one fell swoop Thursday night.

Taking on Morrison in their final home action of the season, the Lady Wildcats wasted no time establishing dominance on their way to an eventual 40-15 victory.

Although neither team had much success finding the basket for the opening moments of Thursday’s game, the Lady Wildcats’ defensive pressure gave them many more chances than their Lady Eagle counterparts, and they capitalized late in the period, out-scoring their guest 8-2 over the closing mintues of the first to take a 13-4 lead.

Points proved to be still hard to come by in the second, with Dibrell scoring the first four of the quarter and Morrison closing out the first half with a 6-0 run, trimming the gap to 17-10 entering the halftime break.

The second half belonged to Dibrell, however, as they held Morrison without a single point for the entire third quarter and what would prove to be an 11-minute span stretching to the closing moments of the ballgame. Wilkinson added nine of her eventual game-high 18-point total in the third, helping the Lady Wildcats to a 32-10 lead, and they posted six more unanswered points before Morrison finally got back on the board with 1:20 to play in the contest.

Emily Crawford and Mary Roller added eight points each to the Dibrell tally, while Trisha Mitchell, Peyton Wanamaker and Paige Green scored two apiece.

Morrison’s Taylor Grissom and Rachel Mott had four points each, Sarah Rains added three and the duo of Erin Dunn and Kayla Rutledge scored a bucket apiece.
