Broncos, Lady ‘Cats win at Lodge Tourney-Dibrell girls remain perfect behind Wilkinson’s 20-point performance

The Lady Wildcats of Dibrell took on Grundy County North in their opening round game in the Warren Masonic Lodge 125 Christmas tournament.

It didn’t take long for the Lady Wildcats to take control of the game as Dibrell defeated the Lady Warriors 34-28 to keep their undefeated season intact.

Both teams hit for a 3-pointer in the opening period. Lauren Wilkinson scored all five of the Lady Wildcats’ points, including a 3-pointer. Emily Grimes opened up with a 3-pointer for Grundy County and Haley Sons added a jumper in the paint as the first period ended tied at 5-5.

Dibrell’s defense shutdown the Lady Warriors in the second period, which allowed the Lady Wildcats to run off nine unanswered points. Wilkinson had two baskets, including another 3-pointer and Mary Roller got in on the scoring action with back-to-back buckets. Jaryn Anderson and Sons hit one bucket each for Grundy County. Emily Crawford closed out Dibrell’s second period run with a bucket as she helped her team to a 16-9 lead at the break.

Dibrell continued to control the game on both ends of the floor in the third period. The Lady Wildcats ran off eight straight points, but with 2:17 left in the period Grundy County made a run. Kierra King hit and Emily Grimes added a pair of baskets to close out he period . But Dibrell still held the lead at 26-17.

In the final period the two teams exchanged baskets and with 3:23 left to play Dibrell held a 29-21 lead. Grundy County made a run during the final minutes of play with seven points, including a 3-pointer, but it wasn’t enough as Dibrell hit three-of-four from the free throw line to secure the victory.

Dibrell’s Wilkinson led all scores with 20 points. Roller had six, Tanisha Ramirez added five, Crawford had two and Trisha Mitchell added one point.

Grimes had 10 points for the Lady Warriors. Sons and Jaryn Anderson added six points each. Lindsey Morris had four and King had two points.
