Lady Pioneers too hot for Jackets-WCHS improves to 3-0 after latest win
Warren County’s girls basketball team had plenty to be thankful for over the holiday weekend, including an undefeated run through their own Thanksgiving Classic.
The Lady Pioneers improved to 3-0 on the season Saturday night, topping Springfield 60-38 with three players reaching double-digits in the scoring column.
Brittany Frazier led the way with 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and Brooke Bowman tossed in 14 while Taylor Nunley had 11 in the winning effort. With the exception of a 3-pointer from Miki Rogers, who finished with eight, the trio handled the rest of their team’s scoring load in the second quarter, pulling away from a 7-6 first-period deficit to take a 27-17 lead into halftime.
Momentum stayed on the Lady Pioneers’ side in the second half, as Frazier opened the third period with a 3-pointer, Bowman added a layup, Nunley converted a three-point play and Rogers knocked down another trey before the Lady Jackets managed their first point of the quarter. Sarah Roller added a pair of inside baskets and Bowman closed the half with a 3-pointer, giving WCHS a 46-29 advantage entering the game’s final stanza.
Sydney Darnell led Springfield’s effort with 16 points, before becoming the first of three Lady Jackets to foul out late in the fourth quarter. LaShawnda Peacher added six, while Jasmine Norton had four points.
Warren County played host to Coffee County last night, and will return to the court Dec. 7, facing Blackman at home.
