Broncos get payback against Van Buren Co.
On Monday the Boyd Broncos’ seventh- and eighth-grade team traveled to Van Buren County for a mid-day matchup with the Eagles.
The Broncos’ Logan Walker netted 16 points to help his team to a 36-32 win, which avenged an earlier loss this season to Van Buren.
Boyd out-scored the Eagles 10-8 in the opening period as Walker hit for two baskets. Aaron Taylor, Kaleb Tilton and Justin Wilson added two points each.
The Broncos’ defense shut down Van Buren in the second period, holding the Eagles to four points. Walker once again led the charge for Boyd netting six points, as Taylor and Wilson added one basket each to give their team a 21-12 lead at the break.
Van Buren netted 10 points in the third period, with six points coming from the free throw line. J.T. Morgan scored a pair of buckets for Boyd and Walker added a basket, but the Broncos still held a five-point advantage by the end of the quarter.
The Eagles put another 10 points on the board in the final period making a run at the Broncos lead. But Boyd slipped in nine points, with baskets from Walker, Tilton and Morgan to secure the road win.
For the Broncos, Walker had 16, Tilton and Morgan added six points each. Wilson and Taylor had four points apiece.
Sheldon Hitchcock led the Eagles with eight points.
