What readers are saying online

What readers are saying about the lack of funding for the four-lane to Woodbury past the current project which extends to Spring Valley Road:

‘The new four-lane needs to be continually funded and finished for the welfare and safety of all who drive this highway. More and more traffic is escalating in this small town. People are driving out of town to seek jobs and to work. We all know this highway has been dangerous for years and years. It is a shame that a medical organization has to get involved to keep pushing for funding for this four-lane, but maybe their opinions will keep it funded and finished.

Elected officials should be aggressive and see to it this project is completed. There is a speed limit posted in the Newtown area and a construction speed limit. Please abide by the speed limits posted. There are too many drivers who drive too fast and on the wrong side of the road through this construction zone. Slow down and stay on your side of the road. There needs to be more police cars at this designated area to ticket speeders and to slow cars down. I have almost been rear-ended or side-swiped through this area where some drivers are not paying attention.’

‘Maybe we need a Robert Byrd here who was able to pork barrel a high bridge in West Virginia for daredevils to base jump off of. Maybe we need Alaska’s politicians who got a bridge to nowhere.

Whatever it takes, we need to get a road to somewhere, namely a four-lane to and around Woodbury. With the high congestion of traffic on I-24 and I-40, it looks like it would be great to have a central corridor across Tennessee from Murfreesboro to Soddy-Daisy.

We have good roads everywhere but in this last section. I know these are harder economic times, but it is our turn. We’re 20 years behind on this project. Three cheers for the medical folks standing up to be counted for this project.

One last thought ‘ I’m developing a dim view of any and all of our senators and representatives who don’t support this much-needed road project. There will be another election, and it may be hard for me to see their name on the ballot with my narrowed vision.’
