Mara to take over as clerk and master
A longtime employee of the clerk and master’s office will be handed the reins at the first of the year as Myra Mara will succeed present Clerk and Master Trenena Wilcher with her departure to become a public defender.
‘I’m looking forward to it but at the same time I’m going to miss Trenena because she’s like family,’ said Mara, who has served as a deputy clerk in the office since 1998.
Wilcher has served just over a year as clerk and master after taking over following the untimely death of Richard McGregor, who died following a tractor accident in October 2006. Prior to that time, Wilcher was secretary for Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley, who makes the appointment to the clerk and master post. It was during her time as clerk and master that Wilcher finished law school and passed the bar exam to become a licensed attorney.
‘I’m excited about getting the chance to practice law,’ said Wilcher concerning her job at the public defender’s office of Dan Bryant. She will replace the retiring Bobby Boyd as an assistant public defender.
‘She and her husband Mark Mara have received numerous civic awards and are actively involved in the Kids of the Community program,’ said Judge Stanley. ‘I fully expect there will be a seamless transition due to Mrs. Mara’s long history in the office and her proven ability to perform the duties required by the office. In appointing Mrs. Mara, I am certain Warren County will continue to have a conscientious and hard-working clerk to provide the community an organized and effective Chancery Court.’
Stanley also praised the efforts of the outgoing Boyd at the public defender’s office. Prior to serving with Bryant, Boyd was an assistant prosecutor with the district attorney general’s office.
‘The community is losing a very smart and talented attorney in Robert Boyd, but it is comforting to know we have public servants like Mrs. Wilcher and Mrs. Mara to give their knowledge and time to continue to assist the people of our county and the 31st Judicial District.’
