Man sentenced for having child porn

A man who downloaded a library of child porn for his roommate, a roommate who is charged with molesting a child, was released on time served after he entering a best-interest plea to sexual exploitation charges.

The defendant, Peter M. Gipson, 40, entered a best-interest plea before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley on Wednesday to 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was directed to serve 123 days of a 10-year sentence and released on time served. The remainder of his time will be spent under the supervision of the community corrections program.

Gipson was indicted last year along with roommate, Daniel James Holmes, 43, on multiple counts of exploitation of a minor. In addition to the child porn, Holmes is charged with molesting a boy under the age of 13, bringing aggravated sexual battery charges against him.

Holmes is charged with inappropriately touching the young family member, charges which brought the original search of his home during which the illegal pictures were found. Holmes remains behind bars awaiting his day in court which will come Sept. 26.

During an interview with Gipson, sheriff’s investigator Jackie Matheny Jr. said the suspect admitted he had downloaded and burned several disks of pornography, including child pornography, for Holmes. He had then placed the disks in a safe.

There were a total of 43 disks sent to the TBI for analysis. Matheny said he viewed two of the disks and found 11 separate clips involving young boys having sex acts, with more than half of them having suggestive titles.
