Girls win, boys fall as WCMS hosts Eagles
Friday afternoon at the Civic Center tennis courts, Warren County Middle School?s girls improved to 2-0 on the year while the Pioneers fell to 1-1 with a narrow loss to Shelbyville.
The Lady Pioneers won 5-4, picking up four singles victories and one doubles win, while the boys? team lost by an identical margin, winning three out of six singles sets and one of their three doubles matches.
Kat McCormick picked up a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position in girls singles, downing Sarah King, while Christina Jennings was a 6-3 winner over Katie Aguirre at No. 3. Laura Martinez, playing in the fourth slot, topped Sarah McGee 6-2. Jamie Tittsworth picked up a lopsided victory at No. 6 singles, winning 6-1 over Alex Gandrailla.
In doubles, the Lady Pioneers? lone win came at No. 2, where Jennings and Martinez teamed up to edge Aguirre and Daileigh Cares by a 6-4 margin.
The Pioneers got two shutout wins in singles, with Thomas Locke blanking Christopher Castello 6-0 at the No. 3 position and Matthew Harmon winning 6-0 over Carlos Delgado at No. 4. Will Marttala had the other singles win, topping Amauri Reyes 6-1 at the No. 6 slot.
In doubles, Austin Saurer and Matthew Zahn were 6-1 winners in their No. 2 match against Castello and Delgado.
