UT Extension offering Tai Chi sessions
Studies conducted at the Stanford University Arthritis Center in California show that people with arthritis or fibromyalgia who have completed arthritis foundation classes experience less pain and stiffness, tend to exercise and relax more, and have more overall knowledge about arthritis. Other benefits may include: Improved ability to cope with stress and depression, memory, balance, coordination, stamina, posture and body awareness.
Tai Chi from the Arthritis Foundation (TCAF) is a form of Tai Chi that is specially designed to reduce the impact of arthritis on your life. It is led by Hilda W. Lytle, an Arthritis Foundation certified instructor and UT Extension Family & Consumer Science Agent.
Created by Dr. Paul Lam with help from a team of medical experts, TCAF increases heart and lung activity, aligns posture, improves balance, and integrates the mind and body. Scientific studies conducted by the Seoul National University have shown this program to be safe and effective, and participants report that it is easy to learn. Thousands of people with arthritis have gained pain relief and better quality of life from learning and practicing TCAF.
