Lady ?Cats top WCHS for second win of season

Tullahoma?s girls left the Charlie Dalton Gym Saturday night celebrating their second win of the season ? and their second win over the Lady Pioneers.

Holly Kiser and Kristen Vance led the Lady Wildcats with 11 points each, as they handed Warren County its 12th loss in a row, winning 43-35 to drop the Lady Pioneers to 3-19 for the 2006-07 campaign.

Down 4-0 early, the Lady Pioneers battled their way back to take a lead by the end of the first, with Miki Rogers and Tessa King both connecting for 3-pointers to help their club to a 12-8 advantage by the quarter?s end.

WCHS, which has had more than its share of shooting troubles this season, went cold from the field yet again in Saturday?s second quarter ? hitting just 1-of-10. The Lady Wildcats took advantage, going on a 10-1 scoring run midway through the period then scoring four unanswered points late in the half, including a basket from Chrissi Edens which gave the visitors a 22-20 halftime lead.

A 7-2 scoring run helped widen the gap for the Lady Wildcats, but Rogers hit another trey and both Brittany Frazier and Brooke Bowman scored last in the third. But the Lady Pioneers could get no closer than three points during the period, and entered the fourth down 34-29.

Another 3-pointer, this time from Bowman, kept WCHS within sight of the Lady Wildcats? lead, but Warren County was kept off the board for the final 5:06 of the contest, while Tullahoma hit 4-of-7 free throws down the stretch to hold on to its edge.

Bowman had eight points to lead the Lady Pioneers, who hit 21.5 percent of their shots (11-of-51) including a 4-of-26 percentage from 3-point range. Rogers and Frazier added six apiece, while Taylor Nunley had five.

Erica Gilbert scored all eight of her points for the Lady Wildcats in the second half, and Edens finished with five to help her club improve to 2-20 on the season.

WCHS played host to Sparta last night, and travels to Blackman Friday.
