Happy homecoming for the Lady Broncos – Boyd celebrates by whipping Webb

Boyd Christian High School celebrated its first homecoming on Saturday, and the Lady Broncos joined the celebration with a 43-21 win over the Lady Feet of Webb.

Lyndsey King led the Lady Broncos with 19 points, including four 3-pointers in their non-district win.

The Lady Broncos may have played their best first half of the season on both sides of the ball Saturday night. Boyd?s defense in the opening period gave Webb all sorts of problems. The Lady Feet turned the ball over six times in the opening period, which resulted in just one point in the period. Boyd connected for 10 points in the period with the help of Virginia Prater, Leah Walker, Courtney Hard and King. King scored six points in the period including a 3-pointer.

Lauren Shepherd hit to open the second period for the Lady Feet, but the Lady Bronco defense held Webb scoreless over the next three minutes of play. Boyd heated things up on offense as King and Prater ran off 10 unanswered points, including one 3-pointer each. King added another 3-pointer at the 2:48 mark as the Lady Broncos closed out the first half with a 20-point run. King closed out the half with her fourth 3-pointer of the night giving the Lady Broncos a 29-5 lead at the break.

Boyd came out in the third period and continued to dominate the game on both ends of the court. Walker hit two buckets to open the third period. Midway through the third Webb picked things up on offense and connected for six unanswered points. But the Lady Broncos closed out the period with a jumper in the paint from Cassie Wanamaker giving Boyd a 36-14 advantage.

In the final period Caitlin Cassiday hit a 3-pointer to get things going for Webb. But Boyd answered back with five straight points. The Lady Feet added four more points to their total. But Olivia Newby closed out the game with a runner in the paint as Boyd picked up the victory.

For the Lady Broncos King led with 19 points. Prater had 10, Walker added eight, Wanamaker, Newby and Hard had two points each.

For the Lady Feet Jessica Walters had 10, Cassiday added seven to lead Webb.

Boyd was scheduled to take on Middle Tennessee Christian at home on Tuesday.
