Education Notes: Savage earns Doctorate in Education

Sondra L. Savage, a graduate of WCHS and the daughter of Eva and Fred Savage of McMinnville, graduated June 25 with a Doctorate of Education from Nova Southeastern University of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She currently resides in Atlanta, Ga., working as a professor at DeVry University. She also holds a BS/BA from UT-Knoxville, and an MS from Nova Southeastern University. She plans to reside in New York.

Stanford makes dean’s list
Dean W. Jeremy Davis of the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Va., is pleased to announce Chris Stanford from McMinnville has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must be a full-time student and rank in the top 25 percent of his or her class for courses taken during the semester.

Pettigrew new member of alumni board
Jim Pettigrew, a new member of The University of Tennessee National Alumni Association Board of Governors, participated in the board’s year-end meeting recently at the Marriott Hotel in Knoxville.
The 77-member Board of Governors is the policy-making organization of the association of the more that 300,000 former students of all University of Tennessee campuses.
Last year, the Association’s Annual Giving program received just over $30 million, which was used for scholarships, teaching awards and other academic enrichment projects at UT’s campuses.

Campbell Pharmacy student receives award
Laura George of McMinnville recently received the Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Development Award from the Campbell University School of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Ronnie and Barbara George.
The Campbell University School of Pharmacy was established in 1986 as the first new school of pharmacy to open in the United States in 35 years. In 1990, the charter class distinguished itself with a100 percent passage rate on state and national board examinations. Subsequent classes have maintained a record of 99 percent passage on the national board exam and 99 percent on state board exams.
