Child rape charge leveled against Luna
A Rock Island man is facing rape charges for allegedly forcing himself on a 10-year-old girl inside her family’s home.
The suspect, Teodale Regledo Luna, is charged with two counts of rape of a child and could face up to 25 years on each count if convicted. He remains held in lieu of bond awaiting preliminary hearing.
Luna, a friend of the victim’s family, is accused of forcing sexual relations upon the 10-year-old. The contact included several types of inappropriate fondling and touching, each occurring during one encounter in the victim’s home near Viola.
According to investigators, the incident took place in the early morning hours after the child’s mother left for work. The mother reportedly believed Luna would also be leaving for work. However, lawmen say he instead crept into the child’s bedroom in the pre-dawn hours and slipped under her covers and committed the crimes.
After the incident, the child reportedly told her older brother who had been sleeping in another portion of the house. Authorities were told a short time later and Luna was arrested.
Investigators say Luna has been living locally for around seven years, and had obtained a driver’s license and Social Security card. But they are unsure, and somewhat doubtful, he is a legal citizen of the United States. Should he be in the country illegally, he could be deported if convicted, once he serves his jail time.
