Hickey jailed for knife fight with girlfriend’s father
A stabbing during a fight over a child support check last year has landed a local couple in jail for attacking a member of the family.
The knife-wielder, Billy Kyle Hickey, was ordered by Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley this week to serve one year in jail and another seven years on supervised probation for aggravated assault.
His girlfriend, April Herrington was ordered to serve 270 days of a three-year sentence for aggravated assault and violation of probation. The couple is also liable for any unpaid medical bills owed by the victim.
It was Herrington’s father, Ted Herrington, who was stabbed in the head during a fight with Hickey at the victim’s Riverview Street residence in Mt. Leo this past November.
Hickey went to the residence with his girlfriend to confront Mr. Herrington on suspicions Mr. Herrington had received, cashed and spent his daughter’s child support checks without giving her any money.
Hickey reportedly slashed Mr. Herrington’s tires when he arrived, then entered the house and asked to speak with the victim. Mr. Herrington was warned Hickey had a knife concealed on his person, prompting the victim to arm himself with a butcher knife from his kitchen.
Hickey had brought a steak knife with him and concealed it in his clothing. Police suspect Hickey and his girlfriend arrived at the residence expecting a confrontation.
A fight then ensued between Hickey and Mr. Herrington, during which the victim’s two wounds were inflicted. Hickey was not stabbed during the struggle.
