At the Jaycee Spring Olympics

The McMinnville Jaycees held their annual Spring Olympics on Saturday at Nunley Stadium.

The Spring Olympics had over 20 athletes who participated in 10 events, which included the long jump, softball throw, 50-yard dash and the wheel chair race. Each event had several categories with men and women competing in each.

This year’s winners in the 40 and under men’s 50-yard dash were Jacob Wanamaker finishing first and Jeremy DeArmond in second. In the men’s 40 and over, Stanley Maxwell brought home the gold, while Leland Miles captured the silver.

In the wheel chair event Richard Rogers finished first with Jamie Whitworth taking second place.

In the women’s 50-yard dash, Shelly Pain took the gold medal, while Ida McCurdy finished second, Bonnie Arney was third and Connie Arney finished fourth.

In the women’s 45 and under softball throw Felicia Tate had a distance of 64 feet for first place. Shelly Pain was second with 61, Bonnie Arney placed third with 23 feet and Connie Arney had a distance of 15 feet. In the 45 and over, Ida McCurdy had a toss of 31 feet for first place. Brenda Dixon was second with 28 and Gail Goff came in third with 24 feet.

In the women’s long jump Pain won her second gold medal with a jump of four feet. Tate finished second at 3-3, and McCurdy was third with three feet.

In the men’s 40 and under softball throw, Jacob Wanamaker took the gold with a throw of 82 feet. Jeremy DeArmond was second with 38, Trent Summer finished third with a throw of 35 feet and Jamie Whitworth had a toss of 12 feet. In the 40 and over division, Stanley Maxwell had a distance of 75 feet for first place. Leland Miles was second with 49 and Richard Rogers finished third with 10 feet.

Maxwell won the long jump with three feet and Summers came in second with a jump of 2-8.

The event was capped off with the awards ceremony as everyone left as a winner.
