WCMS announces new volleyball team
Warren County Middle School volleyball coach Farrah Griffith held tryouts last Friday for the 2005 team. Over 25 middle school age girls went through the 3 hour session with 14 girls making the cut for the middle school team, which is now in it’s fifth year.
“We have a lot of rebuilding to do,” said Griffith.
“This was a good group of athletes that tried out this year and it was a difficult job in cutting the roster down to 14. There’s plenty of talent returning, but we still lack experience. We have several returning starters, but we needed to get some more young talent on the team. There’s six sixth-graders, four seventh graders and four eighth graders, which means for the most part we have a lot of teaching to do. That’s just part of this program, getting kids who have the ability to play and teach them the game in order to prepare them for the high school level.”
In years past the program has had to rely on practicing at the high school. But last year the addition of standards and net provided the team the opportunity to stay at the middle school and workout on their home floor. The Lady Pioneer will be busy during the summer with a conditioning program and will start practice when school starts this fall.
The Warren County High School volleyball program will be holding tryouts on May 20 from 11:30 a.m.-2p.m. in the Charlie Dalton Gym. The tryouts are girls who will be entering 9-11 grades.
