Teens arrested after trio of Knoxville officers hurt in fight

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Two teenagers were being held in juvenile jails after a fight resulted in three Knoxville police officers being sent to the hospital.

Tyrone Jackson, 18, and Steven Soles, 17, were both charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest Friday.

The officers — one of whom was knocked unconscious — all spent the night in a local hospital before being released Saturday morning.

The fight began after the officers asked to search a car reportedly belonging to Jackson after a drug-sniffing dog indicated their might be drugs inside.

Officers said they used pepper spray on the teens, but they continued to struggle. Jackson ran away, and Soles was subdued by an officer using an electric shock device. Jackson was arrested about 20 minutes later.

Both Jackson and Soles have accepted scholarships to play football at Miles College in Fairfield, Ala., according to The Knoxville News-Sentinel.
