Residents to honor soldiers during ceremony at mall

The event will honor all active military personnel with particular emphasis on the local 278th National Guard Unit currently deployed in Iraq.
Evening Exchange Club president Boyd Ramsey said the event will provide a chance to show support for our active military.
“They’re there protecting our freedom,” Ramsey said, “and if they weren’t there, we might not have the freedoms we have today.”
The guest speaker will be staff Sgt. James Dale. Dale, who has 18 years of service with the Tennessee National Guard, is currently Active Duty Mobilization Augmentee for Troop I in McMinnville. He has served in the Airborne Division of Desert Storm and in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
During the event Ramsey will read the names of each member of the 278th who is on active duty in Iraq.
Evening Exchange Club officials would like to recognize other local military personnel who are active. If anyone has knowledge of active personnel, and would like for them to be recognized, please call in their names to Boyd Ramsey at 473-9641, or Mary Jane Bell at 473-4402.
Teresa Martin at Three Star Mall also invites local residents to bring a picture by the mall to be included in a display they are putting together to recognize local active military personnel. The public is also invited to bring items to be shipped to our local 278th unit. Items requested are notebooks, ink pens, sunscreen, eye drops, wipes and soccer balls.
The Evening Exchange Club invites everyone to come out May 21 to honor the men and women who are serving our country in the military.
