Interest in jail addition a welcome sight to see
When only a handful of citizens show up for Warren County Commission meetings, it’s easy to wonder if residents really care about the actions of local government.
That’s why it was also easy to think the turnout for yesterday’s open house at Warren County Jail wouldn’t attract large crowds.
But anyone who attended the open house for the 285-bed jail addition knows that wasn’t the case. County officials estimate well over 1,000 local residents crammed through hallways and made their way through jail cells to get a glimpse at this massive project.
What took millions of dollars and many years to complete is finally ready to house inmates. And people were eager to see the finished product.
Based on early reports, county leaders and construction crews did a noteworthy job seeing the jail addition through to completion. There were many arguments and differences of opinion to get to this point, but it’s reassuring to see compromise prevailed and the wheels of government did in fact churn out a fine facility.
The popular movie line tells us, “If you build it, they will come.” The county built it and the residents were quick to come. They all just hope it was for the last time.
