Health fair set March 5 at Ruritan’s site

Past successes of the Morrison Ruritan Health Fair have encouraged the organization to again schedule the annual event. A joint effort of Morrison Ruritan and NHC Homecare and Health Care Center will take place March 5 from 6 to 9 a.m. in Morrison.

Those interested in lab work, made available by Harton Regional Medical Center, are instructed not to eat or drink after midnight the night before. These tests will include comprehensive metabolic profile, $13; lipid profile, $13; prostatic specific antigen for men only, $11; blood count checks, $8, and thyroid profile, $11.

Numerous services are available without charge. These include carotid bruits and; skin cancer checks by Dr. Jimmie Woodlee; glaucoma screening by Dr. Stanley Martin; and neck and shoulder massage by Natural Advantage.

River Park Hospital will offer computerized fat analysis, diabetic information, cardio vascular fitness, smoke cessation and information regarding new treatment for gastric acid reflux as well as blood pressure and stroke screening by the RPH Rehab Center.

There will be depression screening/MMSE by Jane Mitchell, RN, with the Senior Center; oxygen saturation checks by NHC; advance directives and living will by NHC Healthcare; grip/pinch/strength testing and adaptive equipment by Joan Alfaro OTR/L; arm, neck and shoulder massage by Misti King, Touch of Wellness; skin care and beauty tips by Mary Kay; and how to prepare for disaster by American Red Cross.

Morrison Ruritan Club will serve breakfast at a cost of $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Door prizes will also be awarded.
