The senior knocked down a pair of free throws with just under 30 seconds to play, giving WCHS a 64-63 lead, but Tullahoma answered with a Cass Barnes basket to get back on top.
Harrell wasn’t done, however, as he scored from the left side of the basket with 1.3 ticks remaining, snapping a five-game losing streak and helping the (7-14) Pioneers bounce back from a lopsided loss to Riverdale the previous night.
Warren County took control early in Saturday’s game, with a Todd Gilley 3-pointer opening a 22-point frame which would end with the home squad on top, 22-11.
The Pioneers stayed hot in the second, posting 20 more points and withstanding a 7-2 Tullahoma run to take a 42-27 advantage into the break.
Tullahoma cut their hosts’ lead to 10 (53-43) by the end of the third, thanks largely to a pair of baskets by Wildcat big man Ben Edwards at the conclusion of the period.
The fourth quarter began with four straight points from former Pioneer Tommy Jones, who scored four more later in the period to trim the Wildcats’ deficit to 56-51.
An Edwards 3-pointer, as well as another bucket by the 6-4 senior and another shot by Jones, tied the game at 58-58, and the Wildcats led by as many as four points before the dramatics of the contest’s final minute.
Gilley led WCHS in scoring with 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Harrell and Brandon Adcock finished with 12 each, while Brooks Majors had eight. Terrin Martin scored a pair of 3-pointers, Josh Nunley finished with four points and Warren Swann chipped in two.
The Pioneers were almost perfect from the free-throw line, hitting 16 of 19, including a 10-of-10 night from Harrell.
Edwards finished with 25 to lead Tullahoma, while Jones had 14.
WCHS jumped out of the gates with a vengeance, scoring 19 points before the Lady Wildcats could find the basket, and were never threatened as they improved to 9-10 overall.
Led by Whitney Pelham’s 22-point night, which included three 3-pointers, coach Ann Eades’ squad nailed six 3-pointers in the game and led 34-14 at halftime before carrying a 21-point advantage into the fourth quarter.
McKenna Rhea added seven points to the winning tally, while Leah Cunningham, Heather Frazier and Nikki Griffith had six each. Vanessa Cornelius scored five, Amanda Locke had three and Elizabeth Kennamer finished with two.
Tullahoma got 10 points from Kendra Starks, while Anna Costa had eight.
Warren County played host to White County Tuesday night, and travels to Murfreesboro Oakland Friday.
