Exercise your right as an American and vote
Early in his presidency, George W. Bush touted himself as “the great uniter.” History, however, has shown that’s far from the case.
When it comes to our president, views differ – and usually to the extreme. In Warren County, some residents adore President Bush and warmly embrace his every move. Others cringe every time his picture appears on the news.
While such extreme emotions are by no means a sought-after scenario for the leader of our country, the great part is each and every one of us over 18 can help determine the future. Thanks to democracy, we all have a tiny say as to who will be our next president.
All the people who approve of the job George W. Bush has done as president of this great nation can show their support where it counts – at the polls. For the folks who disapprove of Bush’s policies, now is the time to try to vote him out of office.
Based on early voting numbers, Tennesseans have jumped at the chance to have their voices heard. Even though pollsters have long given Bush a double-digit lead in this state, it didn’t stop over 1.1 million people from casting their vote early. That number includes close to 8,000 early voters here in Warren County.
Voting has been a vital part of American government for over 225 years. It extends from the president of this country all the way down to the mayor of McMinnville. Electing our officials is a way of life, so much so we almost take the right to vote for granted. Some people opt not to vote at all.
While people certainly have the right not to vote, the strength of our democracy lies in numbers. And it’s a promising sign of a vibrant system when people flock to the polls to elect our government officials.
