Registering to vote just became easier

As if registering to vote wasn’t easy enough, election officials will be taking the process on tour around the city, leaving those who remain unregistered for the upcoming November election without excuses.

“There’s really no excuse for not being registered to vote,” said Election Administrator Donna Yates. “By holding registration clinics at various places, we hope to get any people who may have not registered.”

There are presently around 21,000 registered voters in Warren County, with about 17,000 of those on the active list, which means they have voted in the past decade. Yates noted the presidential elections are generally one of the highest voted elections with between 13,000 and 14,000 Warren County voters participating in the past two elections. Yates added those elections also included liquor referendums, a measure which passed last election, which have historically brought voters to the polls.

Along with making registration easier, Yates said early voting has also made voting convenient. Early voting for the presidential election, as well as local races such as the McMinnville city election, will be held Oct. 13-28 in the early voting room located in the rear of the county administration building on Locust Street. Given recent trends, Yates said she would not be surprised to see 7,000 people vote early for the Nov. 2 election.

As far as the upcoming clinics, Yates said election personnel will be on hand at pre-designated locations to help people register.
