Yanks edge A.O. Smith; hold on to division lead

The Fulmer Brothers Yankees held onto their division lead in the 9- and 10-year-old Cal Ripken league Thursday night, downing A.O. Smith 6-4 at the Hoover and Milraney field.

Logan Walker worked all six innings, allowing just three hits on his way to the win. He walked two batters, and fanned nine. Dillon Rowland and Cory Sydenstricker pitched for A.O. Smith, with Rowland taking the loss.

At the plate, David Lee had one of the Yankees’ two hits, while Walker helped his own cause with a base hit and a pair of RBIs.

Spencer Pryor tripled for A.O. Smith, while Jesse Hillis and Brennan Lytle also had hits.

• In other action, Rubley’s Nursery posted 10 runs in the first inning on the way to a 21-3 blowout of Cohutta Water.

Ryne Fults, Zack Rubley and River Underwood had two hits each, while Chase Stewart and Justin Ware had a hit apiece for Rubley’s.

Ware, Fults and Lee Northcutt all saw time on the mound, with Ware picking up the win.

Tyler Anselmo and Logan Wanamaker accounted for Cohutta’s hits, while Thomas Locke, Wanamaker, Jake Damon and Casey Tomberlin all pitched.

• West Side Auto downed Dairy Queen 9-6, with Austin Wright working three innings for the win and Nathan Patterson coming on in the fourth to record the save.

Shunsuke Nakashima had a pair of hits for the Scrappers, with Collin Hutchins and Wright also recording base knocks.

J.T. Morgan went 2-for-3 for Dairy Queen, which got its other hits from Chandler Dotson and Logan Hill. Dakota Myers took the loss on the mound.

• D.C. Roofing kept its perfect record intact, using an 8-run fourth to propel itself to a 12-1 win over the Orioles.

Blake and Daniel Carter combined for a no-hitter on the hill for D.C., with Blake getting the win. Will Marttala worked all five innings, striking out 10 batters in a losing effort for the Orioles.

D.C. got two hits each from Derek Brumley, Blake Carter, Chase Fults, Mitchell Morton and Aaron Taylor. Daniel Carter and Levi Felton had a hit apiece.
