Caregiver Workshop slated at Senior Center

A Caregivers Workshop has been planned for June 8 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Senior Center on Morrison Street.

Workshop presenters will be Mike Palk, licensed professional counselor, and Marie Farran, attorney.

The workshop is a free, informal session designed to address specific questions or problems and share resources and success stories that will assist individuals in their role as a caregiver of a family member or any older adult.

Topics will include recognizing signs of and caring for the elderly with dementia and depression; misuse and abuse of substances including medications; preventing caregiver burnout; one-on-one assistance and sharing of resources; and understanding how to apply for nursing home Medicaid, TennCare, QMB, and so forth.

Adult day care is available through Sunny Day Adult Day Care.

Joining the Senior Center in providing the program are the Upper Cumberland Development District/Area Agency on Aging and Disability and Volunteer Behavioral Health Care Systems.
