March 13: Burt Bacharach, KSO team up for concert

Legendary composer and entertainer Burt Bacharach will perform an evening of his award-winning songs with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. Vocalists joining him on stage will be Josie James, John Pagano and Donna Taylor.

The performance will be held March 12 and 13 at the Civic Auditorium.

Bacharach has defined much of the popular music of our time with 47 top 10 hits and nine number one songs. The composer/pianist is a three-time Academy Award winner, a six-time Grammy recipient and an inductee into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Along with Lennon and McCartney, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, Bacharach is a legend in popular music. He revolutionized the music of the 1950s and 1960s and remains one of America’s most popular songwriters, bracketed with such famous names as Cole Porter and Richard Rodgers.

Bacharach’s music continues to set industry records and standards with audiences spanning all generations. His 40 years of hit songs include: “That’s What Friends Are For,” “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head,” “Walk On By,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do),” and “Always Something There to Remind Me,” among numerous others.

He currently divides his time between performing live concerts worldwide and writing. His songs are in albums by artists including Barbara Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt and Neil Diamond.

“We are really looking forward to working with such a talented musician. His classic tunes speak to audiences of all ages,” said Cornelia Kodkani Laemmli, KSO assistant music director. “No heart will be untouched by this concert.”

The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra consists of more than 80 professional musicians under the leadership of Maestro Lucas Richman. The orchestra gives more than 250 performances yearly to a total of more than 160,000 people throughout the region. It is recognizes as one of the finest musical ensembles of its size in the United States.
