June 5: Jo Dee Messina coming ‘Closer To Home’

Tickets are now on sale for the Jo Dee Messina Closer To Home concert set for Saturday, June 5, in the eclectic rural village of Leipers Fork in Williamson County.

Sponsored by AIM Healthcare Services Inc., event organizers are making tickets available at Ben & Jerry’s on West Main Street in Historic Downtown Franklin; Walker Chevrolet Oldsmobile on South Carothers Road in Franklin; Leipers Fork Antiques at 4149 Old Hillsboro Road in the heart of Leipers Fork; Digital Litho at 300 Peabody St. in Nashville; Cumberland Bank in Green Hills, Brentwood and downtown Franklin; and online at www.closertohomebenefit.org.

General admission tickets are $20 each; artist circle tickets are $40 each.

Gates will open at 3 p.m. June 5 on the Preston Farm, 4107 Old Hillsboro Road. Food vendors will be on site and prior to the start of the 7 p.m. show, concertgoers will also have the opportunity to be ferried back to the village via tractor-drawn wagons. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Picnic baskets are welcome, but not pets.

Leipers Fork is home to a number of retail merchants as well as eateries.

“The Closer To Home concert benefits Williamson County neighbors who experience catastrophic or sometimes just difficult situations in which financial help is needed. We step in to help when help is needed,” Michele Pillar Carlton said. “We’ve kept a family of five together after parents were killed in an auto accident and we’ve paid for summer camps for young athletes where there were no funds.”

Closer To Home also has become a source of financial support for My Friend’s House, a temporary residence for troubled boys located in Franklin, according to Carlton.

In its three years of existence, the Closer To Home concerts by the likes of Vince Gill, Michael McDonald, Steve Winwood, Wynonna Judd and Larry Carlton have raised some $100,000, according to Michele Pillar Carlton.

“We expect to have over 5,000 people here in June to see Jo Dee,” she said. “Our artist circle, or up-front seating tickets, are selling quickly. We anticipate those to be sold out long before the day of the event.”

Additional event sponsors include WSMV-TV, Digital Litho and The Nashville Scene.
