Newspaper employees offer lips in the name of charity
It’s been said one of the most important things a person can give is to give of themselves. If that is indeed the case, Standard employees are really going out on a limb by not only offering of themselves – but of their lips.
This Friday one lucky, or unlucky might be more appropriate, Standard employee will kiss a pig. The kiss will come right on the lips, or rather the snout. This is no doubt something the community has wanted to witness for years and it took until 2004 for that wish to finally become a reality.
But the beneficial part of the newspaper’s first kiss the pig contest is that it’s generating money for charity – and a truly cash-strapped charity at that, the local animal shelter. The financial problems at the animal shelter have been well documented and all the money from the Standard’s contest will be donated to that organization.
So stop by our office Friday for customer appreciation day beginning at 11 a.m. and enjoy a free hot dog or BBQ sandwich. And while you’re here, go ahead and make a $1 donation and vote for your favorite, or least favorite, Standard employee to kiss the pig. Donations will be accepted right up to the 1 p.m. kiss-off time.
Watching a newspaper employee kiss a pig, and donating to the animal shelter is a great combination. It’s like peanut butter and jelly, like marshmallows and hot chocolate.
It promises to be a fun-filled event for everyone involved, except for maybe the Standard employee kissing the pig. For that matter, the kiss may not be that enjoyable for the pig either.
