Warren County airport soars to new heights
The Warren County Memorial Airport, located at 4187 Nashville Hwy, has seen a lot of improvement and development since being established in October of 1946. It has gone from being one of two airports in the county, to being the only significant airport in Warren County. The airport’s appearance has also changed, moving from two runways to one runway, and going from grass to asphalt. The remaining runway has gotten longer and wider, and the taxiway has also grown as the runway has expanded.
The airport manager is James Stephens. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. during Daylight Savings time. The airport can be reached at 931-668-7050.
The facility has 34 hangar units which are available for yearly rental, and also maintains a large hangar for overnight rental. There is a prop shop and avionics/maintenance shop on site. The main terminal building houses offices, a conference room, a flight plan room and a pilot lounge with television. Beverage and snack vending machines are also available. The airport also offers a crew car for limited use by customers who meet the requirements.
The facility is physically located at an elevation of 1,032 ft. (MSL), three miles west of the City of McMinnville, Tenn. It is bordered by Highway 70 to the northeast and Bethany Road and Poly Tittsworth Road to the southwest.
Currently the Warren County Airport consists of a single asphalt runway oriented northeast/southwest and is designated Runway 05/23. Runway 05/23 is 5,000 ft. in length, and 100 ft. in width. The approach of Runway 23 is currently displaced 290 feet in order to obtain clearance over Highway 70.
The airport currently has a full length parallel taxiway system with a runway centerline to taxiway centerline separation distance of 280 ft. The taxiway is 40 ft. in width and is equipped with medium intensity taxiway lights.
Warren County Airport is currently the only Fixed Based Operator (FBO) on the airfield. The FBO provides fuel and fuel oil sales, flight instruction, aircraft rental, airframe service, and powerplant service out of the airport’s terminal building and adjacent maintenance hangar. Warren County Airport sells 100LL and Jet-A aviation fuels from below ground fuel tanks located on the northwestern edge of the aircraft parking apron. The airport is also equipped with an Automated Weather Observation System-III (AWOS-III) which provides current weather conditions to arriving and departing airport operators.
Navigational aids include a WARRI Non-Directional Beacon (NDB) located approximately five miles northeast of Warren County Memorial Airport. Published approaches to the airport include an NDP, GPS and localizer approaches to Runway 23. The lowest approach minimums are associated with the localizer and GPS approaches with a Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) of 1.440 ft. MSL and one statute mile visibility.
