Officers lay a finger on man stealing Butterfingers

A drunk candy bar thief was nabbed Sunday night when police spotted him driving by the scene of the crime.

The suspect, Jason D. Finger, 20, is charged with two counts of burglary, theft and DUI.

According to McMinnville Police Capt. Bryan Denton, Finger’s drunken spree began Sunday evening when the owner of Custom Stereo saw the suspect throwing a concrete planter through the front door of his establishment. The owner confronted the suspect, who he said seemed to be “confused” and ushered him into the office to call police. Finger reportedly told the owner he did not know why he had broken out his window.

Despite his confused state, Finger bolted and fled in his truck as the man was contacting authorities.

It was a short time later police were called to a break-in at Bridgeside Market on Beersheba Street where pieces of a concrete curb had been used to smash the front windows. While investigating the break-in, police saw Finger drive by. Police had been alerted to a description of his vehicle after he fled Custom Stereo earlier. Finger was pulled over moments later after he stopped in front of the old Rockford factory near Sparta Street, allegedly to urinate.

A search of his car netted boxes of stolen Butterfinger and Snickers candy bars as well as packs of cigarettes and a large amount of change taken in the Bridgeside Market burglary. Finger, who failed a field sobriety test and reportedly tested .11 on the breath-o-lizer, confessed to the crimes.
