Officers should play by same rules as we do
How dare the Warren County Sheriff’s Department refuse to pay their $5 parking tickets and how can Joe Melton call the whole thing a “mix up”?
This is not a mix up. The deputies broke the rules the rest of us are expected to abide by. Their defense is that they have been parking there for years and the deputies were on “official police business”.
First of all, this simply means the deputies have been breaking rules for years. Second, any deputy on “official police business” who thinks they may be at the courthouse for more than 30 minutes needs to park and walk like the rest of us are expected to do.
As far as I know, all the deputies have two legs, so they need to use them. They’ve never had a problem walking right on over to my car and writing me a $50 or $100 ticket, (which of course I was expected to pay).
Come to think of it, when I got to court, Joe Melton didn’t show up to call anything a “mix up” either. I wonder if this is because I am an average person and not a privileged member of law enforcement.
That’s the problem with our government. No matter how big or small an issue is, government officials think the rules don’t apply to them. It must be nice to be exempt. How are the rest of us supposed to trust or respect law enforcement when they actually publicize blatant disregard for the rules?
