Armed robber steals drugs from Super D: Bypassed cash register in favor of prescription drugs

Demanding only drugs, a masked gunman robbed Super D drug store Friday morning, dropping his gun as he fled the building.

“He didn’t ask for any money,” said McMinnville Police Investigator Lt. Derwin Adcock. “All he wanted was drugs.”

According to Adcock, the gunman walked over to the pharmacy area of the Northgate Shopping Center store just after 10 a.m. Friday, bypassing cash registers to confront the pharmacists.

“I didn’t see him come up at first,” said pharmacist Don Sullivan, who admitted he was shaken by the experience. “He said, ‘This is a holdup’ and we didn’t take him seriously at first. Then he showed us a gun. He demanded one of the service techs to get off the phone. He was pretty nervous too and pretty anxious to get out of the store.”

The Super D employees complied with the suspect’s demands while he held them at gunpoint, giving him about 300 pills of Percocet and Vicodin. Both drugs are painkillers which contain a narcotic and can be addictive. Sullivan said he didn’t know the value of the 300 pills.

The man, once his demands were met, turned and walked toward the door. He was delayed momentarily by another employee who called out to him because he was leaving the building without paying for his prescription. He also was delayed slightly when he had to pick up his gun after dropping it on the floor.

At this point, lawmen are unsure if the suspect had an accomplice waiting in a getaway car or if he had parked a car somewhere nearby.

According to Adcock, the robbery is unusual in that it is one of the few pharmacy robberies ever seen here and also that the man asked for no money.

The suspect is described as a middle-aged, white male. Police have no suspects.
