Pioneer golfers nab pair of victories

Warren County’s boys golf team turned in a pair of victories this week, including an impressive win at the Tennessee Jr. PGA High School Championship.

The Pioneer and Lady Pioneers topped off a busy week Wednesday at the Championship, which was played at Deer Creek Golf Course in Crossville. The boys team posted a 312 to win the tournament, besting a field of 11 teams.

Warren County’s Alex Self finished second in the individual scores, carding a low round of 74. Andrew Brock and Cody Durham each handed scores of 78.

The Lady Pioneers finished third with a total round of 191. Tori Ritz posted a 95 and Lauren Bewick shot a 96 on the day.

On Monday the teams competed in the Bruin Invitational, held at the Franklin Golf and Country Club. The boys finished 10th out of a 20-team field, posting a 331. Brentwood Academy won with a 303.

Self had a round of 80, Cody Pryor shot an 81 and Cody Durham had an 84 to provide the Pioneers’ team tally.

The girls finished fifth with a 201 behind Christ Presbyterian’s 165. Ritz carded a 93 and Bewick came in with a 98.

Tuesday the Pioneers played a tri-match against Riverdale and Cookeville. The Pioneers picked up the win by posting a 161. Riverdale had a 163 and Cookeville turned in a 164 in the nine-hole match. Josh Eckhart turned in Warren County’s best round of the day with a 37.

After the week of competition, the Pioneers improved to 34-17 overall and the Lady Pioneers now stand at 24-13.
