WCHS takes second in district: Grapplers up their league record to 12-1

After a disappointing finish in the district last year, the Warren County High School wrestling team turned things around this year and clinched a second-place finish in District 9 competition.

Tuesday night the Pioneers held a tri-match with Fairview and Oakland, splitting the match as they topped Oakland 65-15 and fell to Fairview 73-39. The Pioneers improved to 16-9-1 on the season and 12-1 in District 9.

The Pioneers went up against Fairview in their first match with three Pioneers picking up victories. Zach Fults won his match 12-4 in the 119-pound class, Donnie Roach won 9-6 in the 130-pound class and Greg Cotten used 37 seconds to pin his man in the 215-pound class.

In the last match of the night Warren County whipped Oakland, with the Pioneers picking up nine pins in the match.

Winning by pinfall were Cotten in the 215 class, Chris King in the heavyweight class, John Carmicheal in the 103-pound class, Alex Boroff in the 112-pound, Fults in the 119-pound, Roach in the 130-pound, Aaron Thomas in the 135-pound, Justin Anderson in the 152-pound and David Hale in the 160-pound class. Johnathan York won his match in the 125-pound class 5-0, and Mark Chambers picked up a forfeit in the 171-pound class.

The Pioneers were scheduled to take on Riverdale Thursday at home and will travel next Saturday to Tullahoma to compete in the Region 5 tournament.
