WCHS tennis teams wrap up season
Warren County High School’s tennis teams split their regular-season finale against White County Thursday at the McMinnville Civic Center, with the boys winning 5-4 and the girls falling 2-7.
The Pioneers improved to 4-11 on the season, while the Lady Pioneers’ overall record fell to 3-12.
In the boys action, No. 1-seeded Doug Roberts defeated Jason Ryder 8-2, second-seeded R. J. Pierce defeated Chase Hicks 8-1 and Travis Powers fell to Tom McKee 7-9. WCHS picked up the next three matches with Tyler Boyd defeating Josh Lowery 8-4, Jacob Wilson defeating Dustin Berringfield 8-3 and Cameron Gonder beating Lee Hitchcock 8-2.
In doubles the Pioneers lost all three matches. Powers and Wilson went down 8-9 against Ryder and Lowery, Boyd and Terry Tilton fell 5-8 to Hicks and McKee and Nathan Maxwell and Ross Marlowe fell to Kyle Brady and Kyle Cannon 5-8.
For the Lady Pioneers, Tina Vucic defeated Jenson Swindell 8-1, Mo Zwemer defeated Brittany Farley 8-1, Kristan Sharpe lost to Lauren Roper 9-7, April Kirby fell to Rachael Hammonds 3-8, Emily Hobbs fell to Cody Daniels 7-9 and Kayla Blair fell 3-8 against Lindsey Seivers.
Zwemer and Miranda Osborn fell 3-8 against Swindell and Farley, Sharpe and Mary Beth Gribble fell 3-8 against Hammonds and Roper and Lacey West and Nichole Rhea fell 3-8 against Seiver and Daniels.
