Senior Friends don costumes for Spring Fling

Theme for this year’s Spring Fling – “Let’s Go International!” – recently caught the attention of River Park Hospital Senior Friends and others in the community over the age of 50. Emphasizing creativity, they were urged through flyers, meetings and newsletters to select a country and either wear a costume, decorate a booth and/or provide ethnic food for the annual party held at the Senior Center. Represented were Hawaii, Holland, Austria, Thailand, Mexico, Ireland, Great Britain, Japan, Iceland, the Amazon, The Celts and the USA.

James McGregor, guest musician, played selections on the bagpipes. Jason Gross was disc jockey for the evening, offering a variety of music from around the world including waltzes, polkas, Celtic, Irish, German, Chinese and more.

“Bill Dayton invited a group onto the dance floor, walking them through movements of the Macarena,” commented Dawn Dayton, Senior Friends director and party coordinator. “Arms flew in all directions, everywhere but the right places, accompanied by lots of laughter. It got wild!”

Some 20 blank maps were posted around the room and attendees were encouraged to see how many they could recognize by name. Edward and Juanita Oliver won this game by a landslide.

Richard McGregor claimed the grand prize in the costume contest. Other winners were Bill and Dawn Dayton, Jim and Trudy Northway and Elsia Mullican. Outstanding booths were USA, first place; Hawaii, second; and Austria, third.
