Daycare caters to 45-15 school schedule

Recognizing this as a problem, Bobby Ray’s 45-15 committee contacted local daycare providers once the calendar was adopted to see if any would be interested in offering their services to the school’s students. The school offers its own daycare during the breaks, committee member and kindergarten teacher Candy Woodlee said, but can only accept a limited number of children. Committee members wanted parents to have an alternative.
Committee members didn’t have any takers in their search until recently when Tammy Young, owner of Tammy’s Little Tikes, announced plans to open Kids Connection, a daycare center for kindergarten through fourth-grade students which will open this summer and be open during Bobby Ray’s three-week intersession breaks beginning next school year. When Kids Connection opens, Young said she will split her time between that facility and Tammy’s Little Tikes.
“I’m excited about this,” said Young, who is transferring her own elementary age daughter to Bobby Ray to take advantage of the 45-15 calendar. “We’ve already had an organizational meeting with parents and so far I have 20 of the 40 available slots filled.”
Kids Connection will be located in a building adjacent to Tammy’s Little Tikes on Sparta Street. In addition to being open during the intersession periods, Young said her new venture will also be open for all county students during the summer months as well as before and after the school day. And as it is located in the Bobby Ray school zone, school buses will be able to take students to and from the school every day.
Young said she wants Kids Connection to be a place where school age children can have a fun and an educational time. During the intersession breaks she said she will provide the children with field trips, arts and crafts projects, spelling bees, visits from career people and a safe, fenced-in area where they can play outside.
