Arts Center gallery presents mixed-media artists’ work

The Arts Center of Cannon County presents “A Profusion of Print, Paint and Play: Letterpress Prints and Artists’ Books” in the Marly Berger Gallery, April 23 through May 19.

This exhibit will feature works by mixed-media artists Kristi Baughman, Shana Cowart and Janet Higgins together with works by students from the Art Department’s Tulip Poplar Press and the Books Arts Program at Middle Tennessee State University. The exhibition of prints and artists’ books explores the creative possibilities of letterpress printing and the book-as-art.

The Book Arts Program in the Art Department at MTSU preserves and celebrates the old hand technologies of paper making, book binding and letterpress printing. Students enrolled in the two Book Arts Studio classes learn basic book binding techniques, three-dimensional and pop-up book forms, and develop mixed-media artists’ books combining text and image with creative book forms. A variety of mixed-media artists’ books created by students enrolled in Book Arts I and II will be on display.
