Career Fair captures award for excellence

The Warren County Board of Education was presented Tuesday night with an Award for Excellence in Education Programs by the Tennessee School Boards Association.

The award, given for the first quarter of this year, was to honor the board for “See You at the Fair,” a two-day Career Fair and College Night held at the Civic Center last fall.

The fourth annual, award-winning event featured displays and representatives from business and industry from several states. Eighth-graders, juniors and seniors from five counties were bused in for the event. The College Night portion featured representatives from colleges and universities from across the South and was attended by high schoolers and their parents wishing to gain more knowledge about the schools and learn about tuition options such as scholarships.

The Award for Excellence in Education Programs is given by the TSBA to four school systems every quarter. Winners are determined by the TSBA board of directors and honor systems which provide “creative ways to enhance learning for students.” Criteria looked at making the awards include the program’s uniqueness, adaptability, evidence of success and involvement by the community.

Individually honored by the TSBA’s award was Career Fair coordinator and central office employee Sherrill Bull. “She did a great job in putting on a world class career fair right here in Warren County,” said school system Vocational Director Jerry Stubblefield, who worked with Bull in putting on the event.
