McMinnville residents attain Eagle Scout rank3

Six area Boy Scouts recently received scouting’s highest distinction during an Eagle Scout reception in Nashville, according to the Middle Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Alexander Reed IV, son of Clarke and Sandra Reed; Jeremy McVey, son of Kelly and Starr McVey; Jesse Langston, son of Cliff and Sherry Langston; Samual Wallace, son of Sharon Wallace; Jason Thatch, son of Jack Thatch; and Terence Roberts, son of Deborah Roberts, all received the honor.

According to the Middle Tennessee Council’s executive board President Marty Dickens, only 2 percent of all Scouts earn the Eagle rank. The Eagle rank is the seventh rank a Boy Scout can earn and is a performance-based achievement.

To become an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in leadership, service and outdoor skills. As a Scout progresses through the ranks to Eagle, he must earn a certain number of merit badges, accept a position of responsibility within his troop, and be of service.

Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell, an Eagle Scout, delivered the keynote address.
